   As long as you follow the instructions,the product works great and you get very good soft-serve ice cream, ready to eat. See image and video taken at 1min before cycle is complete. Notice how it holds its form. Very creamy and ready to eat. I recommend the product. Bowl: Liquid between the walls must be frozen solid, no slushing sound or motion. Place bowl in the bottom of freezer (upright), may take 3 to 5 days to freeze depending on your freezer. The closer temp is to 0°C the faster it will freeze. My box freezer gets it done in 2 days (even with a whole bunch of other stuff in it). Sound: Starts of at bet 50db to 60db; towards the last 5 minutes increases to 70db to 80db (with cover and lid closed). Not silent, but worth the outcome. Adding Solids: Soft fruit bits should be okay. I used candied fruit bits (tutti-fruity) and it struggled a bit. Add solids cold and at the end of cycle. Also, keep liquid ice-cream mix in fridge overnight before use. Blade: This is where it loses a star. The blade is plastic and i am not sure it will survive frequent usage. The blade’s two connections to the upper ring are .5″ wide and a few mm thick. Easy to clean. Hand wash only. Capacity: 1 quart liquid mix gives 1.5 quart ice-cream. Starts to touch the lid when ready. Will try to get it to 2 quarts in next try and update.

   This is a longer review than I usually leave because I struggled with this machine early on and significantly benefitted from tips that others left. I almost returned it several times but am happy I kept trying and I am now the “ice cream queen” with friends and grandkids. Here is what I learned. 1) Freezer must be at zero degrees to properly freeze the bowl. Mine wasn’t and I didn’t know it but have had it fixed. 2) Freezer bowl needs to be in freezer for at least 24 hours, preferable 48. If you hear noise when you shake the freezer bowl, it’s not ready. I bought 2 extra bowls and keep 2 in my freezer at all times, with the third on reserve and I rotate them when used. That way, I can make 2 batches back to back for large crowds. 3) Freezer bowl needs to be dry when put in freezer. See above. 4) Recipes don’t need to be complicated. I like the ice cream base for the butter pecan ice cream with slight modification. 1 1/4 milk, whisk with 3/4 cups sweetener, add 2 1/2 cups cream and 2 tsp vanilla, punch of salt. Put into machine for standard 25 minutes. At 20 minutes, add your extras. See below. 5) So far, butter pecan is our favorite. I make up several cups of pecans at a time and keep them in the fridge for when we need a cup per batch. 6) We also like chocolate with Ghirardelli Cocoa and mint chocolate chip with 2 tsp peppermint and a cup of mini chocolate chips. 7) We don’t eat sugar but use Swerve granular instead. We use Lily’s chocolate chips. They don’t come in mini but I put them in my chopper for a bit to breaj them up. IMHO, big chips are not as good. 8) Ice cream will be Soft Serve consistency when it comes out of machine when done properly and is edible at that time. We like it better in the freezer for an hour or two. But, it can get too hard. If it has been frozen for a day or 2, think about taking it out of freezer to refrigerator or even room temp for an hour or so before eating. I bought some ice cream containers to keep my ice cream and like the colored lids to help me identify different types. 9) Like most things, practice makes perfect and, now that I know what I am doing, I love it and so does my family. I can make fresh, sugar free, delicious ice cream with minimal effort. It’s worth it!

   It took me a couple of times to get it to freeze correctly. Two tips: make sure the bucket has been in the freezer long enough and if you add fruit like I do, add frozen fruit and I found that it starts setting up within a few minutes. Works great!!!

   I’m going to be critical in this review. Take it or leave it. I purchased the Cuisinart ICE-21 for $49.41 in July, 2014. I was happy with it, and I had absolutely no issues except for enjoying too much ice cream. I gave it to a friend, which is why I no longer have it. When I decided to reacquire an ice cream maker a little while ago, I wanted a Cuisinart. I figured, why not get the slightly bigger one with extra buttons despite the ICE-60W costing twice as much at $118.98 in April, 2016. About a month ago, I used the ICE-60W for the first time. (See photo of the perfect ice cream.) Its operation was essentially the same as the ICE-21. I stood nearby watching it churn the ice cream. I discovered that it starts beeping a few times after a certain length of time passes. For some reason, I was misunderstood in thinking that it would stop after a pre-configured time had elapsed. It does not. I suppose that if the ice cream wasn’t finished, it could be annoying if it stopped on its own. But then, I could easily push the start button again if I need prolonged churning due to ambient temperatures or due to the container being not as chilled as it should be. I would prefer beeps, and then automatic ceasing of churning. Today, I made my favorite: faux matcha ice cream. I create green tea powder by putting cheap sencha green tea leaves in a coffee grinder (not used for coffee), and sieve the powder to remove the hard stems and such. This then goes into the standard vanilla recipe. (For why I call this faux matcha ice cream, ask Dr. Google or check out the page on matcha on Wiki. Good, expensive matcha powder should not go in ice cream, unless if money grows on trees for you.) While listening for the machine to start beeping, I was a few rooms away. I heard the first set of beeps, and I went to check on it a few minutes later. Since I got the ICE-60W, I’ve been wondering why there’s a drain hole at the bottom of the main body where it receives the chilled container. I found out why today. Ice cream expands as it’s churning, which totally makes sense. What doesn’t make sense to me is why Cuisinart didn’t make this machine bigger. Even after following the vanilla ice cream recipe from Cuisinart, the ice cream overflowed outside the chilled container and made a mess. Had I been standing nearby, I would have been able to stop the machine before it got too messy. The photo doesn’t show all of the mess, by the way. The clear plastic lid was caked on the inside. Of course, this mess is not the end of the world. I’ve been in much stickier situations in my life. 😉 But now that my future plan is to use the Cuisinart ice cream recipe for the 1.5 quart ICE-21 machine, my question is, “why did I pay double of what the ICE-21 costs to make the same amount of ice cream?” Here’s another design issue. In essence, the mechanism of how the clear plastic lid secures to the body is the same between the ICE-60W and ICE-21. The machine turns the chilled container, and the gray churning piece in the ice cream ingredients in the chilled container turns the plastic piece which has three little knobs, forcing the knobs into notches on the top of the body, and holding it all in place during operation. I don’t remember ever having issues with the ICE-21, but with the ICE-60W, the clear plastic part does not want to go into place very easily. Without the clear plastic part secured, the gray churning piece does not remain in proper alignment. If I paid double for the ICE-60W, shouldn’t the machine be at least twice as better or smarter, make twice as much ice cream, or last twice as long? Durability seems to be about the same between the two, the ICE-60W only makes 0.5 quart more ice cream than the ICE-21 (if you’re willing to make a mess from overflow), and forget the Gelato mode or the Sorbet mode because all it does is turn at different speeds. You can make the ICE-21 work. At today’s price ($114.98 vs. $49.92), you’re better off buying an ICE-21 for yourself and a second ICE-21 for your neighbor, save $10, and borrow your neighbor’s ICE-21 when you want to make more than 1.5 quarts of ice cream. With this, you could have 1.5 quarts each of two different flavors. I, on the other hand, would only ever have one flavor, although I must say, the faux matcha ice cream is pretty tasty. 😀

    My cuisinart ice cream maker went out after a lot of use (abt 7 yrs) and I had to have another one as we like our frozen treats. I decided to get another one but that particular model wasn’t available anymore so I got this one. It works basically the same and easy to use. If it wasn’t for the noise I would have given this 5 stars, but this particular model is way louder and I find that very annoying. I love cuisinart and have never had any problems with anything I have purchased with that brand. If you can over look the noise, it does as intended.

    To start off, I bought a Ninja Creami and it went and broke on me after using a couple time. The part that broke is not covered under warranty and I ain’t paying $130 to get a new part. Instead I spent $140 to upgrade my ice cream maker. Since my experience with Creami was bad because of a broken part, I checked to ensure that Cusinart makes it easy to get another bowl or paddle in case something does happen. For this specific model, I saw that Cuisinart does have replacement parts on cuisinartoutlets.com. There’s a 2 year warranty so if anything does happen, I’m set. Moving on, it was easy to set up, I froze my bin for 24 hours and made my first batch of macadamia nut milk ice cream with macadamia nuts. I opted to use the ice cream option, even though there’s no heavy cream. The default setting was 25 min but I bumped it up to 30. I checked on it every 10 min and I could tell it was getting thicker. (I was worried that maybe because I didn’t use cream it wouldn’t freeze.) The noise here was not too bad. Less than an AC? I’d say it’s closer to and electric car. Much better than creami because now I can make my ice cream late night and not wake up the whole apartment complex. The creami does take 5 min while this took 30. But the better trade off, Cuisinart makes 2 quarts (for this test batch i did 1.5 qt) and creami did a measly pint. I chopped my “mix in” for the creami because the manual said it’s was delicate (for a blender that loud that’s ironic) when I’d do this and use the mix in setting, everything would be pulverized. I like some crunch and bits when eating ice cream. Not eating crumbs. I chopped my Mac nuts and poured it in my Cuisinart in the last 5 seconds and it did not disintegrate into oblivion. I did hear the machine struggle a little more but it didn’t stop. I honestly should’ve left the timer to 25 min and combine my nuts at 20 min mark, when I added it at the 25 min mark it seemed done already and was mixing for no reason. Anyways, what I didn’t know and pics don’t do any justice but this little lid thing is actually a measuring cup! Wow! Its 1/2 cup measuring and I thought it was used to just cover the pour area but I’m impressed. Other tidbits, the overall size of Cuisinart is larger than creami and it feels like the Heaviest part is the bin itself. Large parts, so I can’t lose anything like the little blade the creami has… underneath the machine, there is a pocket to stuff the cord after use and suction cups for feet if needed. Don’t be fooled by that stupid 11-in-1 marketing ploy the creami has. I bought the deluxe version and it has all these buttons to do ice cream, lite ice cream, froyo etc but this little cool creation does the same even if it doesn’t have all these extra buttons. Happier with this purchase. I’m selling my creami if anyone is interested in that ghetto piece of equipment, hit me up. (Updates) My first batch was a pint, 2 cups of my batch. I didn’t have to baby it because the mix was moving and the container was about half filled. My second batch was a quart. After about 15 min on ice cream mode and I checked it, the mixture had expanded (as expected) and I noticed it was close to the lid. So I was worried it was going to overflow so I stood by to watch. It did not overflow, thankfully but the instructions do sat it can make 2 quarts but I’d be kind of worries because of how close to the top it was.. Overall, still great. I have 2 other recipes going in my head so it will be put to work.

    It may be too early to write a review of this machine since I have only made one batch of ice cream but…

    1. The ice cream was delicious. I had control over all the ingredients that went into the ice cream. The texture was amazing. I really prefer eating the ice cream right out of the machine instead of hardening it. It tastes amazing.
    2. The machine worked well. I would prefer to have a machine that had a built-in freezing unit instead of having to put the bowl in the freezer but the cost of such machines are significantly higher. there have been comments about the noise it makes. It is on the loud side but it is not excessive.

    I do not know about its durability yet but it does the job and makes a fantastic product.

    食物アレルギーがあって市販のアイスを食べられない子供にお母さんが材料を工夫して作ってあげるとかできると思うのできっと喜ばれると思います。使いやすさもシンプルで特に問題ないと聞いてますが、中の容器を冷凍庫で冷やしておかないと使えないらしいので、それがまた結構な場所を取るようです。
