   Bought this based on a Wirecutter recommendation of value for money. So far, so good. It will toast a dense slice of sourdough fresh from the fridge in one go, which is what we were looking for. Toasters just don’t last the way they used to, so no high hopes for longevity, but fresh out of the box, it works just fine.

   Although I have only had it for less than a month, and cannot say with any degree of certainty if it will pass the test of time, so far, everything is fine. It works properly and I have had no issues with the toaster. What I did have an issue with was the packing. When I ordered the toaster, I also ordered two Honeywell room fans, each about 42” tall. All three items shipped at the same time and arrived the same day. In one box was one fan. In another, larger box, was the 2nd fan and the toaster. The larger box could have easily contained both fans. Instead, the toaster, shipped in the larger box with a fan. The packing was minimal. A very minimal amount of brown paper. No styrofoam. No foam core. No peanuts. No corrugated board. Nothing to prevent the toaster from being thrown about inside the box. For the most part, I am happy with cuisinartoutlets.com. But whose idea was it to ship two fans separately (when they could have been shipped in the same box), and then place a small toaster inside a very large box with no packing material? Mind-boggling.

   The Cuisinart CPT-142P1 does exactly what it promises—it toasts well, has good features, and has held up for two years with no issues. That said, for the price, I was hoping for a bit more in terms of build quality.

   ✔ Toasts Evenly & Has Good Features – The shade control settings work well, and I like the bagel and defrost options.
   ✔ Compact & Clean Design – It looks good on the counter and doesn’t take up too much space. The cord wrap underneath is a nice little detail.
   ✖ Very Plastic Feel – The listing says “plastic,” and it definitely feels plastic. I wish they had a slightly more premium option with metal or ceramic.

   Overall, it’s a solid toaster that works exactly as advertised, but for the price, I just expected it to feel a little nicer. 4 out of 5 stars. Maybe I’m just too picky.

   I saw this model on a list of best toasters so my expectations were high. And also, our previous (two-slice) Cuisinart toaster had lasted nearly 8 years. And we toast A LOT. I am definitely happy with this toaster. It fits bagels nicely and I love having the option to toast four slices at a time. It also toasts fairly evenly. I have a few minor issues with it — one of the temperature dials is a little looser than the other, though it does still seem to work. I’ve also noticed that when you have four slices in, only two seem to actually “pop.” But the lever makes it easy to remove even if it does not pop up, so it isn’t a big problem. All in all, I would say this is a good buy.

    I operate a bed and breakfast so I need a fast and efficient toaster. I have been using an expensive Lagustina brand which cost twice as much as this Cuisinart. I got tired of waiting and waiting for the toast to finish so I recently bought this unit. My new Cuisinart is perfect. Not only did it toast 3 minutes faster than my old unit, the buttons are easy to read – especially the cancel button. More expensive does not mean the unit is better. The coils heated up immediately after depressing the lever. Thank you Cuisinart.

    Works very well! It took a couple of tries to find my preferred setting for toast, but it came out well. Nice, even toasting. Can’t say that about my last toaster. The mechanics of the toaster seem to be very good. I’ve used it a numner of times in the 2 weeks I’ve had it. No negative issues at all so far. I may see if I can find a toaster cozy to cover it when not in use.

    Came quickly through the mail and was packaged very well. Very easy to use and can be adjusted depending on your needs. Has great performance, easy to move around and doesn’t weigh too much. Unfortunately doesn’t have a crumb tray but you can very easily shake it out. Doesn’t make too much noise and doesn’t take up much space. Overall, a great toaster.

    I have had this product for about a year. The left handle is very hard to get down. It seems to catch on something and I often have to try a couple of times. It’s bad enough that I wish I could return it but my window has closed. The overall quality apart from that is good. My only comment would be that slightly wider slots would be better.

    8 years later. We still use it. All functions still work and we still use all functions on it. Toasting evenness over the years has gone from even throughout to even about 4/5 through with the other 1/5 being close. I really enjoy how I can pull up on the levers to pop out my toast a little more. It still looks nice and cleans up easily.

    I’ve owned several Cusinart products and they have all failed. I purchased this toaster based on a very good review from the New York Time’s Wirecutter column. As I think of it, that is an ironic name. Because Conair’s (Cuisinart’s parent company) policy, insists that before they ship a replacement for products under warranty, that you cut the cord for the device and submit a photo of the item with the cut cord. This to me is wasteful as these products will end up in the landfills instead of being repaired or recycled. I asked a representative of Conair why they did not take back these products for refurbishing or recycling and the response was simply, It is corporate policy. I like this toaster. It is simple and it makes good toast or bagels. And I like my second Cusinart Griddler (the replacement for the first one that failed). I do not like the causal policy of adding more trash to the landfills.

    It is probably a little early to be writing a review for this product as I only purchased it about a month ago but to date, it has performed perfectly. It offers everything I need for a basic kitchen toaster and I am hoping it will last for years. I have other Cuisinart products and I am generally quite pleased with their performance.
