   I researched coffeemakers until I couldn’t stand it anymore. I finally settled on this Cuisinart and I think it was a good choice overall. The coffee is good flavored (no plastic taste) and the temperature of the coffee is very hot. I like being able to change the carafe temperature setting. We keep it on medium, since we find the high setting is way too hot and we have to wait too long for the coffee to cool to a drinkable temperature. With other coffee makers we have had a problem with the carafe spout dripping coffee all over the counter while pouring the coffee. This Cuisinart does not do that. That was a welcome change. Also, after the brewing cycle on our previous machines, when we would open the top of the coffeemaker to remove the filter with grounds, water would pour down the back of the machine and keep dripping for awhile onto the counter. This Cuisinart drips down the back a little when you first open the top, but not a lot, and it doesn’t keep on dripping. One wipe-up and we’re good. We like the 5-beep signal that the brewing cycle is done. Also, it beeps twice when the 2 hour keep-warm cycle ends. That’s a nice feature. I read many reviews that said there was a problem with a lot of machines having the hot plate rust or flake. We haven’t been using our machine long enough to experience that, but having read those reviews, we’ve made sure to always dry the bottom of the carafe before placing it back on the hot plate. I’ve also read some negative reviews about the design of the black plastic rim around the top of the carafe, saying it holds water or coffee and doesn’t allow for a complete clean out. I find that is true of our machine as well, and I don’t like that design at all. It is tough to pour the last little bit of coffee or water out of the carafe, and liquid does get trapped inside the rim. I noticed this when I washed the carafe this morning with soap and water, rinsed it and then dried it completely. I saw that water continued to drip down the inside which had to have been coming from inside the rim. I’m a little concerned about bacteria forming inside there from leftover coffee, because there’s no way to clean that out completely. Also I’ve attached a picture that shows the inner side of the handle against the glass holds water that has gotten in there, as well as water trapped under the metal band that goes around the lower part of the outside of the carafe. That metal band seems to serve no purpose other than decoration and advertisement, as it says the word Cuisinart on it. Since the inside of the handle is on the outside of the glass, that trapped water is not contaminating or causing a problem with the coffee, so I guess I won’t worry about that one too much, but it is still a design flaw that Cuisinart should correct. The main reason being that I saw a few drops seep out of the bottom of the handle, which could possibly contribute to the rusting issue of the hot plate, since I thought the carafe was totally dry before putting it back on the hot plate, not realizing it would drip afterwards. The design of the top of the carafe is my biggest complaint about this machine. A carafe is such a simple item, it should never have water trapped anywhere in it. My last machine had a very simple flip up lid with no plastic rim around the top of the carafe. Never had a problem with it, except for the spout dripping. That could’ve been solved with molding the glass spout a little bigger. I think Cuisinart should re-design their carafe to eliminate that black plastic rim. Otherwise, we are pretty satisfied with the unit. Time will tell how long it keeps working compared to previous ones we’ve used.

   I chose this specific model as I was tired of so many other coffeemakers whose coffee is already lukewarm by the time you fill your cup. I want it HOT. I don’t want to have to microwave my coffee right after making it (and adding a splash of milk). This machine delivers. Nice, piping hot coffee, with a setting to keep the carafe hot after brewing. LOVE it! Also really easy to use, simple, intuitive buttons, I like that I can set the strength to “Bold”. I see what others are saying about the lid on the carafe, but honestly, it’s a minor thing, doesn’t bother me. They should improve that on future models to a carafe lid that you can open/close with one hand, but for the tradeoff of really HOT coffee, I’m happy.

   This is a US coffee maker, fitted with a US electrical outlet plug. Unfortunately this makes it fairly useless to a UK customer like me. Even after securing a step-down converter it won’t start brewing. Nothing in the original ad, including the small print and technical details, suggests this is not a UK coffee maker. Basically all told £150 wasted due to the seller and cuisinartoutlets.com being clueless about where they are selling electrical items.

   We’ve replaced an older Cuisinart DCC-1200 with this DCC-3200. Since it’s a popular line, I thought others might be interested in how they compare. (In the attached comparison photos, the 1200 is on the left and the 3200 is on the right): Taste: Coffee in the 3200 is more flavorful. A new machine might be expected to be better, but I think they’ve gotten the flow and temperature of the brewing process better. Temperature: The brewed coffee is much hotter. Both units have three temperature settings for the hot plate, but the settings on the 3200 are hotter. Size and Capacity. The 3200 handles 14 cups compared to the 1200’s 12 cups. Yet as you can see from the photos, they are the same height to fit on a counter. They seem to get the extra capacity by making the 3200 a little deeper from front to back. We’ve been surprised at how useful the extra capacity is. Carafe: The new glass carafe is just like the old one, only larger. It pours nicely with or without the lid on it. The new lid works the same as the old one, popping off and on. (I read some complaints about the lid on an intervening model with a spring opening, but if so, they fixed that by going back to the 1200 style). As far as I can tell, there isn’t a version of the 3200 designed for a thermal carafe like there is for the 12-cup models. I prefer the glass carafe because it keeps the coffee hotter longer, and I can always pour the coffee into a thermal carafe if I want to. Water Filling. The bigger size also increases the size of the water fill hole. The lid on the top of the 3200 unit raises to 90 degrees straight up, where the lid on the 1200 tilted further back and out of the way. Still the 3200 is easier to fill, and I suspect that the restriction on the tilt may help preserve the integrity of the hot water tube. Sneak a Cup. Taking out the carafe to sneak a cup during brewing worked great on the 1200 with little dripping, and still does on the 3200. Basket. The basket on the 3200 is very similar to the 1200, but a slightly different shape to accommodate more grounds for 14 cups. Actually, grounds just barely fit with a 4 cup paper filter in the new basket, and sometimes go above the filter in the basket. The basket actually seems more designed for the included gold filter. Water filter. The 3200 uses the exact same carbon filters and filter holder as the 1200, but the holder seems to fit more snugly in its hole, which may help prevent clogging (see below) Beep. The 3200 allows you to turn of the coffee-ready beep if you want. Controls. Controls on the 3200 are a little easier. The 3200 uses all push buttons with no switches. Separate hour and minute settings make it a little easier to program and set the clock. There is a new “Bold” setting which does indeed seem to result in stronger coffee. There is still a setting for smaller, 1-4 cup pots, but I never use that. You can still set the hot plate to stay hot for up to 4 hours, which is important to me. There is a fairly bright blue glow from the LED display on the 3200. Cleaning. There was a sensor button on the hot plate of the 1200 that’s gone on the 3200, so the plate stays cleaner. The extra stainless steel looks good on the 3200 but probably shows smudges more and might benefit from special cleaner fluids. Coffee Grounds Overflowing and Clogging. This was the biggest problem before, and I don’t know if it’s fixed, but it seems better. On the 1200, if you put too many coffee grounds in the filter it could overflow in the brewing process, and sometimes grounds would get into the water system and clog the tube. The 1200 was designed not to be repairable, but customers tried anyway with some difficulty. After one successful repair, we eventually had to replace the 1200. So far, we have not had any overflow issues with the 3200. The larger basket (with possibly a bigger drip opening), the deeper reservoir and longer case, and the more stable, non-tilting lid may help with this, but we will see how it works over time. I do notice that they made the bottom panel easier to remove, with regular screws instead of Torx, if it ever comes to that. My one tip for users is to always use the filter holder with a filter in it, even if your water is fine, because that should help prevent grounds from getting into the heating system. In all, the 3200 is an excellent replacement for the 1200, and worth the extra money if you are choosing between the two models new.

   I love the Cuisinart brand and I love this coffee maker. This purchase was a replacement for our old one that finally went kaput. But we had it for years and years, using it every single day, so we definitely got our use out of it. This is the exact same style as the last one but a little updated with a very clean look that is looks fine out on the countertop. It perfectly fits our space…not so tall that it doesn’t fit under the cabinets. Of course, we have to pull it forward to pour the water into the top. But it has a reusable filter that is washable so you don’t have to use paper filters, which is wonderful. It’s programmable so I can set it the night before and it will make the coffee for me in the morning as I’m getting ready for work. The best part, however, is the “bold” button that can make the coffee stronger when it’s brewing…my husband and I both like a strong cup. I’m sure this will last just as long as the last one. But when it goes, I’m sure we’ll repeat our purchase again!

   I bought the Cuisinart DCC-3200BKSP1 in black stainless steel roughly 18 months ago to replace an 8 year old, 10-cup thermal Cuisinart drip coffee maker, which I have used almost daily with no issues. This coffee maker offers the same ease of use, pleasing aesthetic, and reliable operation I expect with a Cuisinart coffee maker. The temperature control works well – I am someone would likes super hot coffee, and the highest temp setting meets my preference, whereas my previous maker was not able to get the coffee to my liking. There is noticeable difference between the 3 temperature settings. My experience with coffee flavor has been positive, coffee is brewed and has good flavor – I have no issues here, but I do feel like it is not quite as good as my old Cuisinart made. As each device is different, there are countless factors that will effect flavor and as with most brewing methods it takes some fine tuning to dial in the coffee to your liking. A few comments on operation and my process using this device: – When the brew is almost complete and the water reservoir is almost empty, the device does make some noises as the pump is trying to suck in the last of the water. This doesn’t bother me but I could see how this would bother some people. – The blue of the LCD screen is a little bit harsh, especially in the middle of the night if you happen to have this nearby where you sleep or if you wander into the kitchen in the dark. Again, not a bit issue, the color could be better/softer but some may see this serve as a small nightlight. – I always wipe the access moisture from the inside of the lid using a paper towel and leave it open to dry after brewing. to prevent any build up of minerals or coffee within the device – plus this keeps it clean and looking brand new. – Using the same paper towel, I occasionally wipe the hot plate and carafe compartment out with the wetted paper towel to clean up any spilled coffee/grounds. This is all I have done as far as cleaning for the entire time I’ve owned the machine (with the exception of using a little stainless steel cleaner on the appropriate parts. For $100, this coffee pot is well worth it for the average coffee drinker. There are some additional colors offered at differing price points, but just know that you are paying for the appearance and the functionality is that of the same $100 coffee pot. With minimal effort as far as maintenance / cleaning, this coffee maker has performed as expected for me for 18 months and there is no reason to think it won’t continue to be a reliable morning companion for years to come.

    This BKSP1 (black stainless appearance) 14-cup coffeemaker replaced a 12+ year old Cuisinart 12-cup unit we used until it finally quit working. Great coffeemaker and it produced great coffee. My research to replace the old unit settled on the BKSP1 model and cuisinartoutlets.com delivered straight-a-way. I got it all cleansed out, programmed and set up for begin brewing at 4:45 the next morning. It brewed a great pot of coffee and all worked wonderfully … EXCEPT that the clock on the BKSP1 was running FAST. It had “gained” almost an hour since I had set it up the day before. Thus the coffee was actually brewed at ~3:45AM. I reset the clock and kept watching it as I would walk by the coffeemaker and noted that it was gaining time or running FAST. I went through this for several days and finally sent a message to cuisinartoutlets.com C.S. and they immediately replaced with another BKSP1 and I returned the original unit. I went through the setup process with the #2 BKSP1 and was hopeful that the clock would keep proper time … however it did not. The clock on the #2 BKSP1 also ran FAST. The coffeemaker worked just fine in all regards … save for the clock running FAST. So, I reached out to Cuisinart/Conair C.S. with this “fast clock” issue and they replaced the #2 BKSP1 with the #3 BKSP1. I did all the setup with #3 and lo & behold … the clock on the #3 BKSP1 also runs FAST. All other elements work just fine, brews great coffee, but the clock just has a mind of it’s own. So (you can guess what is next), I reached out to Cuisinart/Conair C.S. (again) with the fast clock issue noted in graf above. A ticket was established and I was shipped a #4 BKSP1 to replace the #3 unit. Can you see where this is going? The #4 BKSP1 unit was set up and put into service and the clock on #4 also runs FAST. So … it appears that there is something common going on with the BKSP1 model units. This time I called Cuisinart/Conair C.S. (I had been establishing all other tickets via the inter-web and e-mail). The lady with C.S. was simply excellent and she noted my BKSP1 ticket history and said she would have another unit shipped out straight-a-way. She asked if I still wanted the same BKSP1 model or would I want to get the SP1 model (SP1 is the brushed stainless appearance). I figured what the heck … I would get the SP1 this time. In a couple days I received the #5 SP1, got it all set up and ready to brew coffee the next morning at 4:45. I would glance at the clock on the #5 SP1 as I walked by the unit and the clock was ACCURATE. I was again hopeful that the clock would hold and keep proper time. At 4:45AM the brew cycle started and it actually was at 4:45AM. The clock held it’s accuracy for one day at that point. It has now been 3-days and the clock on the #5 SP1 is “spot on”. So (there is the ‘so’ word again) I noted on the boxes the coffeemakers were shipped in had the countries of manufacture stamped on them. The BKSP1 units were all manufactured in China. The SP1 unit was manufactured in Indonesia. AHA – I said. There is a manufacturing plant issue going on. I did an extensive observation letter to Cuisinart/Conair about my situation and thoughts of what is going on. BTW – In addition the BKSP1 units all dripped extensive moisture droplets down the back side of the unit when the top lid was opened to removed the coffee grounds. This had me wondering if there was a leak as there was water all over the counter under the BKSP1 units. Turns out the drip lip on the upper back of the BKSP1 appears to be ‘flat’ without adequate slope to have the water droplets flow back into the reservoir. Also the drip lip is not as deep as what I noticed on the SP1 units. I also observed (on both the BKSP1 and SP1 models) that there is a lot of moisture condensation that collects on the upper front panel where the control buttons are located. To me this could affect the electronics that I’m guessing is located near or behind this panel. Ergo couple items of note for Cuisinart/Conair: 1) Production molds for the BKSP1 and SP1 are NOT the same between the China and Indonesia manufacturing plants. Thus the drip lip issue noted above. 2) The chips/electronics being used in the China plant for the BKSP1 are defective and can’t keep proper time. All-in-all … The Cuisinart 14-cup coffeemaker is an excellent product and works very well and produces great coffee. Save for the units (in my case) that are manufactured in China where the chips/electronics they are using just don’t work. Adding to that the manufacturing mold difference that slightly changes the size of the drip lip on the upper back. I would suggest getting the the SP1 model and keep your fingers crossed that it is also manufactured in Indonesia as opposed to China. At least until such time as changes are made in the manufacturing facility in China to correct the noted issues. Cheers, Nolan K.
