   Received the toaster today and put it to work right away. I like my toast to be really toasted so I put some of Panera’s thick-cut classic sourdough in the toaster at the #3 darkness setting. It burned but only on one side. The other side was extremely light. Next I tried the #2 setting in the other slot and got the same result as the previous test with only a tiny bit of burning around the edges. Finally I tried the #1 setting. That worked fine. The toast looked nice ‘n brown like I want it — but I had to put it down a second time, turning the bread around so I could toast the other side. That made the first side a little burned around the edges. Still, it tasted good. I didn’t let the #1 toasting time go all the way to pop up either time. Just trying to keep it from burning. Now an explanation for why I posted two pictures. One shows tthe toaster looks from a distance (I’d give it a good grade for that), while the other photo shows how it looks when you are close to it. Notice the cord. It is very stiff. I want it to go straight down from the plug so I don’t have a streak of white across my wall. I was able to get some of the kinks out farther down the cord but not as much as I hoped. The toaster replaces a toaster oven that looked terrible beside my new breadbox (that orange thing in the pictures) because it is stainless. It had its own issues when it came to making toast. In fact I’ve never had a toaster or toaster oven that didn’t have its own peculiar way of doing its job. Just one toaster made perfectly browned toast on both sides, but when it popped up it threw the toast on the floor. I’ll stick with this new toaster instead of trying to find something better. I’ve given up all hope of ever finding a 5-star toaster.

   Look at the photo. On the right, my dearly beloved, permanently stained, old toaster, which finally gave up the ghost. On the left, Cuisinart’s “compact” toaster. It’s big. It’s also a very bright white—to the point that it manages to stand out as stupidly, garishly white next to white canisters and against a white backsplash. I returned it, so I can’t speak to the quality of the job it does. I can say that the cord was on the short side. I did like that it has a dedicated “cancel” button. That’s a feature I greatly appreciated on my old toaster and one of the reasons I bought this one.

   I originally bought this toaster as a temporary solution until the one i wanted to buy was back in stock. But after using this toaster I no longer see the need in buying a more expensive one because this one does everything I need it to. At this price point you will NOT find a better toaster. It’s simple, yet looks attractive on my counter. The shape and design makes it easy to clean. I have toasted bagels, and other types of bread in it and so far it works great. I notice in alot of reviews, not only for this toaster but many others as well, that people complain about the toasters not toasting “perfectly even”. I never realized how many OCD people there were in the world until I read those reviews. LOL. The reality is no toaster will ever make a piece of toast exactly the same shade top to bottom, front to back. It’s simply unrealistic due to science. Toast is toast. As long as it’s toasted, and not burnt… who cares what it looks like? It is important to remember that different types of breads, and different brands of breads use different ingredients. Therefore my toasting experience may not be the same as yours. You have to experiment with your new toaster to find the settings that work for you based on the kind of bread you are toasting. Different ingredients in different breads cause them to toast within different time frames. My preferred setting on this toaster is 3. I started at 5, then 4, and kept going lower until I found a setting that didn’t burn the brand of bread I buy. You will have to do the same. But once you find the heat level setting that works for your brand and type of bread, it’s smooth sailing moving forward. I would also like to address the “chemical smell”, “burning plastic smell” reviews. YES THERE WAS A BURNING SMELL THE FIRST TIME I USED THE TOASTER. It’s normal when you are running electricity through heated metal coils for the first time. Again… this is science. It is to be expected. IT WILL GO AWAY AFTER A COUPLE USES. I turned on the toaster for 3 back to back cycles without bread, then 3 back to back cycles with bread that I threw away. After that… NO SMELL. Make sure you have the windows open when you do this. This is currently the #1 top rated toaster on cuisinartoutlets.com. I think it deserves that spot in the rankings. Buy it.

   Look, I didn’t expect this to be a paragon of gorgeous, evenly toasted, golden toast –or, at least, I didn’t expect that would last forever. It was a reasonably priced toaster, and I was hoping to get a couple of decent years’ service out of it. No dice. I’m less than three months in, and already the toaster has two serious flaws. One: it won’t stay down when I push down the toast button. It’s like a fight, or maybe a negotiation, every morning. Toast my toast! I’d prefer not to. No, seriously, toast, my toast! No, thanks, I’d prefer not to. Every time I push down the lever, it pops right back up again, until finally, I reach some miraculous perfect push, or the toaster decides to humor me, or the moon is in the seventh house, and then my toast begins to toast. Two: one side of my toast gets toasted, mostly on the bottom, while the other side stays creamy white. I am not interested in micromanaging my toaster. I am not interested in flipping and swapping. I am interested in putting in my bread and getting back toast. If that’s what you want, this is not the toaster for you.

   Simple little toaster is what was needed. It works great and has wide slots for bagels if that is your preference. I just use it for toast and I like to keep it on #2 for the perfect browning level that fits my need. Easy to wipe down and has removable crumb tray. I loved the look of this one even though it is a little larger than others on the market. I thought the price was a little higher than some of the cheaper models…..it’s a CUISINART and I expected to pay more and I’m happy with my choice and so glad it came in white.

    This toaster does its job. It toasts perfectly. I love its compact size. The only problem is I wish the slots were a little longer because the bread use (rye bread) has a slightly tight fit. Bagels toast up just right. I like the reheat button because toast is better when hot but sometimes life happens and you aren’t busy when it first pops up.

    Es algo voluminoso, pero para lo que es funciona perfecto.
    Siempre he tenido algo de problema con el hecho de que en cualquier tostador siempre se llena por dentro de migajas. Pero este al menos tiene el plus de que por debajo hay una bandeja que uno puede quitar para limpiar las migajas que le caigan.
    Tiene varias funciones, aunque en realidad solo lo usamos para tostar. Quisimos este porque precisamente estaba muy bien reseñado en The Wirecutter para tostar correctamente, y así ha sido hasta ahora.
    Muy recomendable 🙂
