   My wife uses this every day. We like it except, like many people, ours would stop brewing seconds after hitting the brew button. See attached image. There is a float that rides inside that channel. When you clean it with vinegar, it does not clean the coffee tar. If that float gets stuck on the bottom, the device thinks the reservoir is empty and stops brewing, like it should. You have to clean that area. The top plate unscrews and the float lifts out for easy access. Must be a magnetic switch that reacts with the float. I will be trying Urnex cleaning tablets. cuisinartoutlets.com sells it. It claims to clean out coffee oil. We will see. 5/1/2021 The Urnex works well on the pot. 9/13. Change that to a fair job. The pot is very clean but the float got stuck a few weeks ago. I will try to clean it more often. 1/8/22. Float got stuck again. The pot is very clean. I have moved on to operation “SteamBlock”. The steam passes from the brew chamber to the reservoir. It must be carrying the oil with it. I put in this wall to block it. It’s not air tight. I’ll see how it goes and put in some gasket or foam if needed. It does block most of the steam. If you use orange oil w/water and let it soak in the reservoir, it does a decent job of breaking down the tar. You still have to wipe it to clean it off. 10/13/2022 I think I’m done with this. Keeping the reservoir clean is too much trouble. Cuisinart can easily fix this by isolating the reservoir.

   This coffee maker produces fantastic coffee, and the thermal carafe keeps coffee piping hot for a long time without any change in coffee quality. The one thing that loses a star is the carafe leaks when pouring, causing a little cleanup after every pour. That aside this is the best coffee maker I’ve ever had and would recommend it.

   When my old coffee pot broke and was discontinued I was sure I would not find one as good as it was. I was wrong ! I have used this coffee maker for 2 months and have been totally happy with it. The Stainless Carafe keeps the coffee hot for hours. It has a X-HOT function function, which I measured with a laser @ 200° F. The display is easy to read and the controls are simple to set. I never change settings so its 1 button on. The basket is easy to clean, I use paper filters, not the included washable filter. Several times I have found out that if you forget to put the basket in and put the filter in alone the coffee does not spill all over and it makes coffee as normal. Bonus feature ! Just don’t try to sneak a cup ! I have had no problems with the coffee maker at all. Highly recommended. I love the Cuisinart brand.

   I want to start this review by stating that I haven’t used a drip coffee maker in years. I am what people describe as a “coffee snob.” I grew up drinking the traditional Mr. Coffee-style drip brew that my parents were happy with and wasn’t happy with the plastic taste and lack of flavor that came with each cup, even though they always bought the “really nice” models. I can’t stand drinking coffee from restaurants or even mainstream coffee shops, as they still lack the flavor and taste that I want with my coffee. I’m also less than impressed with Keurig coffee and other single-serve brewing systems. For years, as a result of these tastes, I initially made pour-over coffee, then transitioned to the French press method as the best, richest, and full-bodied coffee that I’ve ever had, and I only use certain brands/types of coffee. It’s one of the few things I splurge on. Then I bought a house with a septic and no garbage disposal. And my coffee grounds became a Big Problem with my husband due to concerns about clogging the system – which is valid – not to mention that now we have room for guests, running out to Dunkin Donuts to get a box of coffee for them has become inconvenient, since people don’t want to wait 15 minutes for me to slowly brew them cups of coffee. All things considered, I decided I had to finally bite the bullet and procure an automatic coffee maker. I did a lot of research on the SCAA approved coffee makers since I didn’t want to compromise my taste. After reading about how the heart-attack-inducingly-expensive Technivorm requires “stirring the grinds” in order for even water dispersal (I mean, who wants to babysit the coffee if you’re getting an automatic machine? For me that totally defeats the point), I turned my attention to the second best recommended coffee maker that was far more affordable, the Bonavita. I saved up and purchased one only to find that it felt flimsy and the carafe leaked buckets, retaining liquid inside the upper lid, no matter what I did. Back to the drawing board. I looked at all of the other SCAA certified coffee makers and kept coming back to this Cuisinart PurePrecision Pour Over brewer. It looked very new, was a fairly reasonable price, and the top reviewer notes that he has compared it to the other certified coffee makers and prefers it, which gave me some reassurance. I had a bit of trepidation since there wasn’t a lot of feedback or reviews online since this model is so relatively new, but decided I would give it a shot. The design is very sleek. It looks great in our kitchen – my husband, who doesn’t drink coffee, even commented that it has become a statement piece on our counter. (Photo attached; glass foggy as it was just cleaned with hot water.) The coffee maker looks and feels sturdy, with an impressive display and simple controls that make programming it easy. You set the auto-on time and can also set an auto-off time for the heating pad beneath the glass carafe. I found it interesting that the device comes with a charcoal filter designed to improve the water’s taste should the owner not utilize a water filter on their own. As I use ZeroWater filter pitchers, I probably will not replace the filter when the time comes as I consider it unnecessary. Since other reviewers noted that the steel carafe has leaking issues, as well as the Bonavita I had tried, I chose the glass carafe. I don’t care about heat retention because I pour my coffee immediately into my Zojirushi thermos and go to work in the morning, which keeps the coffee piping hot. What matters to me is whether or not the carafe leaks when I pour from it. And this one does not. If heat retention is a concern, increasing the amount of time prior to the auto-off is probably good idea. I can say that the coffee brewed by this machine is as hot as when I boil water to French press, and I’ve been satisfied by the temperature. As I am the sole coffee drinker in my household, I make about 4 cups and use 2 scoops of coffee per cup. While this is below the recommended flavor amount for the machine (Cuisinart recommends making at least 6 cups for best flavor), I still thoroughly enjoy the coffee made. It is strong and full-bodied, rich. I have used up to coarse coffee and have no problems with it. The one thing I will note – there is almost an imperceptible burr to the flavor of the coffee with this coffee maker that is not there, is smoother, when it is prepared with the French press method, but it is so negligible a difference that it can be overlooked in favor of the time savings and ease of clean-up that comes with this machine. In conclusion, I highly recommend this coffee maker. It produces the best coffee that I have ever tasted from an automatic/drip machine and I am happy with my purchase. I am awarding this product 5 stars and, in my opinion, it is deserving of its SCAA certification. If something should happen or my satisfaction changes, I will update this review. ::UPDATE MARCH 2018:: This coffee maker still works like it is brand new. I’m still very impressed with it and still love it. I have experienced no issues with water fog or the display dimming, and I periodically clean it out by doing a vinegar/water flush until the water runs clear. I use it every day and have no regrets about my purchase. And, since apparently there is someone on this site attempting to cast doubt on this review and that of the other top reviewer, I can affirm here that I was not given a discount on this product, I was not paid to do this review, I was not asked by the company to do a review, and I have not received any subsequent discounts or perks from doing this review. I am simply a lover of coffee.

   The Cuisinart CPO-850 Coffee Brewer is an awesome coffee maker with a nice stainless steel design. It keeps water at the perfect temperature and lets you choose your coffee strength. The reusable stainless steel filter is another plus in my opinion, so no more paper filters.

   It’s super easy to use with a clear display and simple controls. The carafe keeps coffee hot for a long time ( I would say for 2-3 hours), and cleaning is easy. It can be a bit noisy, and the stainless finish might need a wipe sometimes, but overall, it’s a great pick for a stylish and reliable coffee maker. This is my second one!

   I have the glass carafe version of this coffee maker and for the past 2 years I have been very happy with it. It consistently makes a decent pot of coffee and I appreciate the various temperature and flavor settings. I like strong coffee so for me that means xhot and bold. Yesterday I broke the carafe and I could not find a replacement carafe anywhere. When I called Cuisinart customer service said the replacement carafes would not be available for six weeks and that “No, a carafe from any other Cuisinart coffee maker would not work because mine was an 8 cup carafe not a 10 or 12 cup carafe. I borrowed my sisters Cuisinart 12 cup carafe just to see it would would work and it worked like a charm. The only difference between the 8 cup carafe and the 12 cup carafe is the shape of the carafe. The bottom (that fits into the warmer) is the same size, the height is the same, and the top part of the lid is the same. So if you need a replacement carafe and can not find an 8 cup one the 12 cup works just fine.

   ***Very Important Update for people who spend time reading reviews before bying**** Here is the update to the initial review in quotes below. I made coffee yesterday to put in my $12 MossyO*** travel mug from W.M. to go help a friend build a playground in temperatures that were below freezing for the first 3 hours of the build. Guess what? The coffee stayed hot! This had me really perplexed. This morning I made a coffee pot. I filled up my wife’s mug for her to go to work, but waited on my coffee until I got home from dropping her and my daughter off at school. Less than 45 min later my coffee was on the cold side. I thought, I am going to call Cuisinart, surely they will stand behind a product that was almost $200. I got on the phone with the lady at customer support who informed me that they would replace the carafe but I would need to pay to have it shipped. I said I could mark the machine as defective and cuisinartoutlets.com will take it back for free. She said that I would also have to put $10 In the box for return shipping. I said, I just spent hours/days researching and chose their product over the others. Now you are asking me to add $20 to the price because the product is defective? I asked to speak to a supervisor and her immediate response was, “I can but they are probably going to say the same thing.” Really? Even if, who says that? After holding, she came back and asked if I had turned off the auto off function. I said, “Miss, this machine doesn’t have an auto off function. As I told you, it has the stainless steel carafe.” She then began to tell me about how the auto off function works. I then proceeded to educate her on her product and repeated my concern. After another hold, she came back and asked if the water I put into the machine was hot or cold. At this point I was floored! Once again I repeated to her the problem and informed her again that her company paid aot of money to confirm that their machine is certified to consistently make a hot cup off coffee. I repeated that the coffee stays hot when immediately poured into a travel mug so the temp of water going in is irrelevant. I asked again to talk to a supervisor. To save the details of repeating all the above. The supervisor said that the carafe is only designed to keep the coffee hot for 45min! Wow! I said, “I know you did not personally make this machine, but I am absolutely floored that this company would go through the trouble of making a name for themselves in the luxury coffee world and not make their stainless carafe hold heat like the average coffee mug. She also confirmed that I would need to pay shipping. I told her that she would get the product back, just through cuisinartoutlets.com as they back their customers. I also told her that this machine would probably be the best on the market without this skimp on quality.” She said the conversation was recorded and that she would pass it over to quality control. I said, “Please do.” I hope you read this first if you plan on having your coffee stay hot in the pot, otherwise, simply get a single serve. If you drink it quick, it may work for you, BUT DON’T COUNT ON THIS COMPANY THROWING YOU A BONE AND BACKING THEIR PRODUCT IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG. Unless you Don’t mind paying an even higher price. From three to 1 ONE STAR. I did not put one star at the top as many, like me, count many of those off and don’t read them. My initial review below. “I did a LOT of research and landed on this BEAUTIFUL, CERTIFIED, WONDERFUL COFFEE making machine and then …. The only negative that I really saw, but did not give a second thought. THE CARAFE! Why go through the trouble of making such a beautiful machine, pay the fee and have It go through the rigorous testing for certification and then not isolate it to keep the coffee warm for an extended period of time? You even went through the appreciated trouble to put a flap in the lid to close when the carafe is not tilted, but skimped on isolating the stainless properly? We live in a day and age where 8 hour stainless mugs and thermoses are a plenty, yet I knew when the water first went in during the initial flush that the carafe was not insulated well because I could instantly feel the heat through the side. My average stainless thermal mug doesn’t even do this. Why the three stars when most people, including myself, will drink their coffee in the first 30 minutes? Here we are January 3rd and the holiday guest have gone home. I was so proud to have such a machine so that everyone who came over could enjoy a great cup of coffee when they woke up, so I would wake up an hour early and put on a pot (I am fully aware that I could set the timer and it works great, but I prefer to not have the grounds sit over night) only to have the guest who woke up less than an hour later put their cup in the microwave. Well…. If the carafe were sealed like my inexpensive stainless travel mug, that would not have happened. Even as I wrote this review, the coffee was being made and by the time I finished, under an hour later, the coffee is NOT hot. Am I VERY pleased with everything else about this machine? You bet! And I hope to have it for years to come. I will just have to settle with the fact that from time-to-time my guest will have to zap fry their wonderf certified cup of coffee. Three stars just because I feel that this could have gone down in history as one of the greatest machines without the oversight or cutting corners on the carafe. I own an average department store travel mug that keeps my coffee hotter for several hours more than this carafe does for less than an hour.”

   I don’t normally write product reviews, but THIS pour-over coffee maker is simply amazing! Hubby and I are coffee snobs and this replacement for our old Cuisinart coffee maker had to be rock solid and make a great cup of coffee. I ordered it yesterday, received it today(!!), and excitedly made our first pot– OMG!! What a difference this machine makes!! Absolutely NO bitterness and an amazingly delicious, rich, complex and velvety taste I was never able to achieve with our old machines. This is our first SCAA-certified, pour-over style coffee maker and I did my homework before choosing this one. I expected to pay two to three times our usual $70 investment in a coffee maker, comparing with Technivorm Moccamaster, Brevlle and other very pricey machines. Interestingly, there were very few reviews of this Cuisinart machine on YouTube, but I have to say it is one of the few pour-over machines that is programmable (able set the start of brewing for the next morning, and able to program the hot plate shut-off after brewing is completed). It was also about half of the $300+ price tag of the Moccamaster which was not programmable. After tasting this coffee, we are simply thrilled with this machine. Beyond that, the machine itself feels very well made and sturdy, and is very simple to clean and operate. The glass carafe does not dribble either. I just can’t say enough good things about this machine. It makes just 8 cups of coffee in one brewing which is perfect for our morning coffee routine. HOWEVER, ….[BONUS ALERT!!]…. I discovered that our old 12-cup Cuisinart glass carafe is exactly the same height and lid construction as this new one and is perfectly compatible with this coffee maker! So if we have company over, I can simply use the larger pot and run two brews. I purchased this machine myself and was NOT paid for this review. If you love EXTRAORDINARY coffee that knocks your socks off, look no further. This coffee maker is the BOMB!!

    Update: 10/12/20: Buyer Beware – Digital Display ISSUE I’m now on the second CPO-800!! I love the coffeee it makes and the glass carafe is still great to pour out of and it still breaks easily. My issue ( A friend has the same machine and is on her second one as well) is a defect in the digital display. It gets dimmer and dimmer until the display just isn’t legible anymore and dies Cuisinart will replace the machine once, however the replacement has no warranty on it . The replacement warranty is whatever may be left on the original machine. Really? Wow! Unacceptable for a nearly $200 coffee machine!!! My replacement CPO-800’s display is nearly unreadable (again!). but I’m SOOL since the original warranty ended 15 days ago. Cuisinart obviously has an issue with this model , yet won’t back up the product. They offer 20% off another coffee machine on their website..Whoooooppeee! Gee thanks! I have the original receipt, but too bad. Even though Cuisnart knows of this display defect, they could care less on customer satisfaction. AS if 20% off makes a big difference on another machine after I dropped nearly $200. Original Review: 2017: I’m very happy with this coffee maker and the great coffee it makes . I was a manager trainer with Starbucks for many years and I would recommend this machine for price, usability , and the pour over coffee taste. And yes, I make much better coffee at home than the drip coffee found at all these chains. The glass carafe is great to pour out of due to it being wide on the bottom and tapering up- well balanced. Others have gone into great detail about this machine, which I wholeheartedly agree with, however one issue that I have found to be troubling is the glass carafe breaks very easily. If it lightly taps against anything, it more than likely will crack whereas any of the other Cuisinart glass carafes are thicker and sturdier. I’ve had two easily crack already and my friend has the same machine with 2 breaking on her as well. Good luck trying to find a replacement glass carafe! If you do, it won’t be in stock.

    Read alot of bad reviews on this machine but I love all my cuisinart products so got it anyway and so glad i did. Got the one with the thermal carafe and its an excellent coffee maker. Coffee is nice and hot even without the extra hot option and carafe keeps it hot for a good 2 hrs or so, with the thermal one coffee tastes great as not sitting on a hot plate being scorched. Some reviews said carafe leaks when pouring but hasnt happened to me once and i use it sometimes twice a day, had it for about 2 months so far. Water/coffee gets trapped in the removable lid on carafe so i just give it a shake and then dry it bfore next pot and its perfect. Opening of carafe is narrow so use a bottle brush to clean, simple and easy. We prefer using the paper filters, melita bamboo,to avoid the sediment from the stainless steel one. We also use filtered water along with the filter in the machine and use kicking horse organic beans which we grind daily. Bold and xtra hot functions come in handy, timer works great and the coffee ready beep is not loud or annoying, just right. This machine makes the perfect cup of coffee for us and looks beautiful on the counter without taking up alot of space. Was pricey but absolutely worth it, wish we got one sooner

    Normalmente preparo mi cafe en una prensa francesa, me gusta muy caliente y con buen sabor, fuerte…
    Pero estaba resultando inconveniente por tiempo y espacio en mi cocina, calentar agua en un calentador, moler el cafe, poner en la prensa y esperar etc
    Supe del metodo “pour over” que sin saber antes lo utilizaba y me entere que hay unas cafeteras para eso que cumplen con algunos requerimentos siendo los mas importantes para mi la temperatura del agua, la forma en que se “vierte” sobre el cafe que es como una regadera y unas pausas que hace
    El resultado es un cafe muy bueno, caliente y fuerte
    Si estas interesado en las cafeteras pour over, esta es la mas economica que encontre (comparado con la moccamaster, la brewville, bonavita etc)
    Esta fabricada con muy buenos materiales, facil de usar con un resultado excelente
    OjO Nada que ver con las cafeteras caseras
    Esto es para conocedores (viciosos del cafe pues 🙈)

    This coffee maker just does just about everything right:
    -The “blooming” pause helps to make a perfect brew, and it’s incredibly fast to the finish.
    -Large & bright time/programming display.
    -Simple to program.
    -Clock keeps perfect time and does not lose programming in short power outages under 70 seconds.
    -The 8-cup size is just right for two people… 2 cups each first thing in the morning, maybe a third later. That’s okay, since pushing more water than that through a filter of coffee degrades the whole pot, IMHO)

    The only “con” I can think of is battery life. You have 1 minute & 10 seconds if power is lost before it loses all programming. This hasn’t changed in my experience of over 20 years of Cuisinart coffee maker ownership (total of six DCC-1150xx models). Not a big deal, it’s easy to re-program, and not worth knocking a star; but maybe a bigger battery next time?
