I use this sieve mostly to rub ground herbs through. I grind dried herbs with a mortar and pestle, which pulverizes the leaves but not the stems, then rub the mixture through the sieve. But pieces of dried herb get wedged up between the mesh and the rim, and the mesh has to be flexed to get them out. So after a month or two, this breaks the solder holding the mesh to the rim. There are only a few spots of solder around the rim to hold the mesh in place. After about my 3rd sieve broke, I bought some good metal glue and did what the manufacturer should have done in the first place: using a new sieve, I glued the mesh to the rim, all the way around. The pictures show my glue job. So, stuff won’t get wedged between the mesh and the rim. And the mesh won’t detach either. So far, it’s working great. The sieve has a much more solid feel now. It doesn’t flex when I rub herbs into it. It’s difficult to clean though, because little pieces of herbs get trapped in the fine mesh, and they’re hard to get out.
